About Menaggio

The heart of Lake Como’s western shore

Welcome to Visit Menaggio.com, an independant Travel guide using the "Visit" branding style adopted by more and more private Tourist Guides, marketing-savvy Hotel organisations or official Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Menaggio is a town where history feels warmly alive, shaped by its central position on Lake Como, its hillside villas and more than a century of welcoming travellers.

It grew from a lakeside village with a medieval castle into one of the classic resorts of Lake Como, discovered in the 19th century by European travellers who built villas and hotels along the shore and on the hill of Loveno. One of the oldest golf clubs in Italy opened here in 1907. Today Piazza Garibaldi, the old lanes of the centre and Villa Mylius Vigoni, now a German-Italian centre of culture, reflect this heritage, while the ferry pier links Menaggio to Bellagio and Varenna in a few minutes. Few places on Lake Como are so perfectly placed to explore the whole lake.

Modern Menaggio blends this heritage with a relaxed, outdoor-loving atmosphere. The promenade, the lido, the Greenway del Lago di Como and the trails of the Val Sanagra offer walks, swimming, cycling and wide views of the Alps. Cafés, gelaterie and the shops of Via Calvi add to its charm. Menaggio is a place where the lake meets the mountains, where villas look over the water, and where tradition and holiday life coexist with ease.
